Tasks in Slack
Everything on this page needs your own account connected — run /bordio connect in Slack first.
Thread replies additionally need the app to be a member of the channel; link previews don’t.
Link previews
Section titled “Link previews”Paste a link to a task or a meeting into a Slack channel and it expands into a card. This works in any conversation — public or private channels, group and direct messages — and doesn’t require the Bordio app to be added to the channel.
A task card shows the title, description, status, type, priority, assignees, reporter and project. A meeting card shows the title, description, type, project and the date range.
Links from these addresses are recognised:
app.bordio.com/...— the address you see in your browserapi.bordio.com/deeplink/...andlink.bordio.com/...— the short links Bordio sends in emails and notifications
A card is built only for people who can see the item: Bordio checks your access at the moment the link is shared, every time. If you’ve lost access to the project, old cards stop working too.
Task actions
Section titled “Task actions”Task cards carry buttons:
- Complete — closes the task
- Status — pick a different status from the list of statuses in that project
- Assignee — opens a small window with the project’s members, so the list isn’t dumped into the channel
- Open in Bordio — opens the task in the app
Every press is checked against your rights in the project. If you can’t make the change, Bordio says so in a message only you can see, and nothing is modified.
Creating tasks
Section titled “Creating tasks”From a command
Section titled “From a command”/bordio add Call the client about the contractA form opens with the title already filled in. Pick the project, and adjust the status, type, priority and assignees if the defaults don’t suit — they are pre-filled with what the task would get anyway. Submit, and Bordio confirms in a direct message.
The card for the new task is posted into the channel you ran the command in, so the team sees it and the thread under it is already wired to the task. If the app isn’t in that conversation, the task is still created and Bordio tells you what to do — see adding Bordio to a channel.
Changing the project reloads the statuses, types and the list of people, because those come from the project you picked. Anything you typed stays.
From an existing message
Section titled “From an existing message”Open the ⋮ More actions menu on any Slack message and choose Create task from message. The same form opens, with the message text as the title.
Useful when a request arrives in a channel and you don’t want it to scroll away.
Thread replies
Section titled “Thread replies”Reply in the thread under a preview card and your reply becomes a comment on that task or meeting in Bordio. This needs the app to be in that channel — see adding Bordio to a channel. Editing your reply updates the comment; deleting it removes the comment.
The comment carries all the usual consequences: people following the task are notified, by email, push, the bell, or Slack, according to their own settings.
Mentions
Section titled “Mentions”Mention someone in a thread the way you normally would in Slack, and Bordio works out who they are:
- A colleague who has connected their Slack account and can see the task becomes a real Bordio mention — they get a “you were mentioned” notification through their own channels.
- Someone who can’t see the task appears as plain text. Bordio won’t show a mention that promises a notification nobody will receive.
- Someone who hasn’t connected their Slack account appears by name, as plain text.
@here, @channel and group mentions are kept as text. They address whoever is in the Slack
channel, which isn’t the same set of people as those following the task, so Bordio doesn’t turn them
into notifications.
What isn’t synced
Section titled “What isn’t synced”- Files. A file attached in a thread is carried over as a link to the Slack message, not as an attachment on the task.
- Threads in direct messages. Bordio doesn’t request access to your DMs, so previews there don’t sync replies.
- Messages outside a thread. Only replies under a Bordio preview become comments; ordinary channel chatter is not read.
